Unpublished YouGov poll for the Sun puts Tories just 1 point ahead of Labour

A fascinating poll was conducted by YouGov for the Sun that had the Conservatives just 1 point ahead of Labour.  The poll was taken immediately aftr the Gordon Brown interview with Piers Morgan.  The Sun did not publish the poll, saying that it was never intended for publication!

It must be tough for those who made the call that the Sun was backing the Tories to see the polls narrow so alarmingly (or so pleasingly for others). It won’t be “the Sun wot won it” this time.

The fact that it was never published isn’t a problem.  The importance of the poll is that when the electorate is exposed to the real GB, rather than the smears and lies that is part of its aily diet, our Gordon excels.

This must be a matter of great concern for the Tories.  David ‘Call me Dave’ Cameron is identified as an old Etonian Tory toff.

Labour would be well advised to remember the saying “It’s the economy, Stupid”, but add to it “It’ all about Class”.

A hung parliament continues to look likely.

Dave Cameron: What a diamond geezer

Today’s Sun has an article penned by David Cameron that aims to convince us that he is not a Tory toff. It is full of Gavin and Tracy, Gary Barlow and the new year television viewing habits of the Cameron household.

From this article it is clear that Dave Cameron is an everyday bloke, a real diamond geezer.

Actually his article is an insult to the intelligence of ordinary people. They won’t suddenly be convinced that he isn’t upper middle class, via Eton and Oxford and the Bullingdon.

This remains Cameron’s Achilles Heal, and he knows it. He is a Tory toff and the more he tries to pretend he is otherwise, the more we will know he is worried about this.

The Tory Party website still refers to the schools attended by Shadow Cabinet members if they attended Comprehensives but is silent on Eton and other private schools attended by Cameron, George Osborne et al. This in spite of an assurance to “sort out the website” given to Jon Soppell on The Politics Show.

When it comes to playing the class card, Gotdon Brown is not guilty. Just once, at PMQ, did he refer to the playing fields of Eton. The shame is that he has not done so more often.

Cameron Squirming on that 4 letter word – Eton

I have just sat through an excruitiating interview with David Cameron on the BBC Politics Show,  Where he looked most ill at ease was when Jon Soppel asked him why, on the Conservative Party website, did it mention the schools attended by all Shadow Cabinet members when they attended state schools, but when an individual had attended a private school, the school was not mentioned.

Cameron first did not answer the question, then he said he did not understand it. He finally said that the website would be fixed.  Throughout he said there was no secret as to where he was educated. But even then he did not mention the 4 letter word, E-T-O-N.  (I suspect that when ‘fixing’ the Tory website, the comprehensive schools attended by Hague, Fox, et al will be removed rather than Eton being added).

Clearly the Tory’s polling must suggest that the party is seen as Tory toffs: Eton, Bullingham Club, double barreled names. Earlier in the week I posted how the Tories were advising their candidates to drop double barreled names.  So Brighton Kemptown candidate, Simon Radford-Kirby is no plain Simon Kirby, failed candidate in Brighton Pavilion, Digby Seaman-Scott, presented himself  as plain Digby Scott.

Brighton Pavilion candidate, Chuck Vere, responded by saying she is simple Charlotte Vere.  (I detect she does not appreciate being constantly referred to by this blog as ‘Chuck’ – I am just trying to help her and the Tories look ordinary, everyday folk). I can confirm that Chuck Vere is not the Vere-Seaman-Digby-Weale-Chirnside-Firth IV of the Royal London Borough of Uppity Class, referred to in an earlier post!  Nor did she go to Eton.  I am sure her impressive website will give a full biography in due course.
